Overview

A 7-day Uganda birding safari is an exciting adventure for birdwatchers and nature enthusiasts to explore the rich avian diversity of Uganda, known as the "Pearl of Africa." Uganda is home to over 1,000 bird species, making it one of the top birding destinations in Africa. Here's an overview of what your birding safari itinerary might look like.

Itinerary

  • Day 1: ARRIVAL AT ENTEBBE AND TRANSFER TO THE HOTEL

    Upon arrival you will be met by your guide and our representative, after greetings and introduction, you will be offered some bottles of mineral water followed by a direct transfer toy your hotel. Dinner and Overnight at2Friends Beach Hotel.

  • Day 2: BIRDING AT BOTANICAL GARDENS IN ENTEBBE/UWEC/LAKE VICTORIA SHORES

    After breakfast we start our birding tour at Botanical gardens in Entebbe, which hosts a range of birds from Lake Victoria specials including the grey Kestrel, golden –backed weaver, slender –billed and forest birds including the splendid Ross’s,the Great blue Turacco, palm Nut vulture, African Grey parrot and Whilst bat Hawk. Overnight at 2Friends Beach Hotel.

  • Day 3: BIRDING AT MABAMBA SWAMP

    Mabamba bay has grown into one of the most interesting and spectacular sites for birding in Uganda and is one of the wetlands of International Importance. Apart from Murchison Falls National Park, Mabamba bay is the only other place and site ( so far rated as the best in Africa and/or the whole world) where the elusive Shoebill can be spotted at any one time of the day. Recently, Mabamba has become one of the strong holds for the migrant Blue Swallow with over 100 individuals recorded every year. Mabamba has been surveyed in recent years and now boosts of over 260 species with one day’s record of 157 species. Later return to you’ hotel in Entebbe for Dinner and Overnight at2Friends Beach Hotel.

  • Day 4: BIRDING IN LAKE MBURO NATIONAL PARK-ENTEBBE-LAKE MBURO AND BOAT RIDE

    After breakfast, we will transfer to Lake Mburo upon arrival we will have a morning game drive. You will have greater chances of viewing several animal species including; Zebras, Impalas, Elands, Topi and Buffalos. You will also view the park’s sculptured landscape with rolling grassy hills and idyllic shorelines. We will then have a boat ride where you will be able to spot hippos, crocodiles and a variety of water birds like; the Great White Egret, Pied Kingfisher, and brilliantly colored Papyrus Gonolek, Papyrus Yellow Warblers, African Finfoot, African Fish Eagle, the Night Heron and many more. Dinner and Overnight at Lake Mburo Safari Lodge.

  • Day 5: BIRD WATCHING QUEEN ELIZABETH NATIONAL PARK

    The Park which is named after the Queen of England who visited it in 1954 is the second largest national park in Uganda. In terms of diversity this park ranks among the best birding destinations in Uganda with over 610 species recorded, and a one day record of 296 species and these include; Harlequin Quail, Blue Quail, Small (Common) Buttonquail, African Crake, White winged Warbler, Martial Eagle, African Skimmer, Verreaux’s Eagle-Owl, Papyrus Gonolek, Amur Falcon, OvampoSparrowhawk, Lowland Akalat, Greater and Lesser Flamingo, Shoebill, Black Bee-eater, Caruthers’s Cisticola, Terek Sandpiper, Secretary Bird, and Temminck’s Courser. Mammals include; African Elephant, Spotted Hyena, Leopard, Lion, Ugandan Kobs, Side-striped Jackal, Baboons, Chimpanzees, Bush and Water Bucks, Warthogs, Giant Forest Hogs to mention but a few.   • Day 6: GAME DRIVE IN QUEEN ELIZABETH N. PARK UGANDA

    After breakfast, we will have a morning game drive around the park. The fact that Queen Elizabeth National Park has got a diverse eco system of savannah to rain forest, from dense papyrus swamps and brooding crater lakes to the vastness of Lake Edward is a major contribution to the fact that it boasts one of the highest biodiversity ratings of any game park or reserve in the world. Therefore, while on the game drive, with the massive Rwenzoris as a backdrop, you will have excellent opportunities to see; the Lion, Leopard, Giant Forest hog, Cape Buffalo, Elephant, Deffassa Water buck, Uganda Kob, Topi, and Bush buck.   • Day 7: RETURN TO KAMPALA/ENTEBBE

    After breakfast you will transfer back to Kampala with lunch en-routes then you will be driven to the airport to board your flight back home.
