Tour Itinerary

Day 1: Nairobi – Mount Kenya Forest Birding
Kenya Safari

One World Observatory

Start your Kenya Birding Safari with pickup in Nairobi and drive toward the scenic central highlands. Enjoy birding stopovers along the way, spotting species such as the African paradise flycatcher, augur buzzard, and cinnamon-chested bee-eater. Arrive at Mount Kenya Forest, a prime habitat for montane and forest bird species including Hartlaub’s turaco and tacazze sunbird. Afternoon guided bird walk around the forest edge enhances your species list. Mammals like colobus monkeys and bushbuck may also appear. Relax in cool mountain air as you prepare for deeper bird exploration.

Lake Baringo Birding

One World Observatory

After early morning forest birding, depart for Lake Baringo, one of Kenya’s richest birding destinations. The Rift Valley drive offers scenic landscapes and additional roadside bird sightings. Lake Baringo hosts over 450 species including northern masked weaver, bristle-crowned starling, and Goliath heron. Afternoon bird walk along the lakeshore focuses on waterbirds and arid-zone specialties. This freshwater lake attracts migratory species and is considered a birdwatcher’s paradise year-round.

One World Observatory

Spend a full day exploring Lake Baringo’s wetlands and surrounding acacia woodlands. Early morning boat ride provides excellent sightings of African fish eagles, kingfishers, herons, and pelicans. Guided nature walks target specialities like Hemprich’s hornbill and Jackson’s hornbill. The diverse habitats allow close-range photography and relaxed observation. This area is ideal for both serious ornithologists and hobby birders. Return to the lodge for leisure and checklist review in the evening.

Kakamega forest

One World Observatory

This time will be spent exploring Kakamega forest, a remnant of the Guineo-Congolian Equatorial forest. Species diversity here is plenty and we shall hope to have a huge addition to our Kenya Prime Birding Tour birdlist. We shall spend time walking in the forest in search of local specialties, with breaks in between. The forest is also great with different unique monkeys, antelopes and squirrel species.Overnight in Kakamega.

One World Observatory

Drive to Lake Nakuru National Park, famous for flamingos and over 400 bird species. Afternoon game drive combines birdwatching with wildlife viewing including rhinos, lions, and Rothschild giraffes. The alkaline lake attracts pelicans, cormorants, and African spoonbills. Scenic viewpoints overlook the Great Rift Valley escarpment.

One World Observatory

On the first morning, we shall enjoy birding in Nakuru, hoping to add a few more species to our Kenya Prime Birding Tour birdlist. We shall then proceed to the Masai Mara, where we shall arrive at our lodge in the afternoon. Birding stops on the way will likely produce some new species. The next days will see us scout the vast Masai Mara, in search of the local birds and mammals. Described by many as the top reserve in Kenya, this area will have lots to offer from the Big Five, herds of grazing mammals, to the amazing birdlife. The magical Annual Wildebeest Migration is also a spectacle that has made the area very famous. Birding will likely be busy with several transects across this vast savannah. This area is often the crown of our Kenya Prime Birding Tour. Overnight in Mara.

One World Observatory

After breakfast, depart for Nairobi with scenic countryside views and final birding stopovers. Arrive in the afternoon for transfer to hotel or Jomo Kenyatta International Airport for departure. This concludes your unforgettable 10 Days Kenya Birding Safari, combining diverse habitats, rare species sightings, and iconic wildlife experiences.
